Who We Are

Malcolm Wright opened his first second hand bookshop in Rochester some 40 years ago in small listed building in the High Street. He saw an opening as there were then no bookshops selling used books in the Medway Towns. Rupert Croft Cooke had small shop at the other end of the High street in the late 40‘s and early 50‘s and there had been another small shop in Brompton High Street (Alton Book Store) which closed in the 1960‘s. Apart from small number of shops selling new books that was all in population of some 250,000 people.
In 2012 after several re-incarnations we operated another small shop at 105 High Street, Rochester on part-time basis opening most Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The shop specialised in Local History and Transport but also had large sections of history, literature and perhaps the largest stock of theology books in the area. The shop ceased opening on a regular basis at the end of 2016 as most of the trade was now on-line. It will still be open by appointment and on various `SALES DAYS` where stock from all subjects will be at say £2 or £1 per title or 50p per title.  A Stock of New Local Books will also be kept. When open the shop will have a table and shop sign (swinger A ) outside.
The shop is in the centre of the High Street on La Providence the French Hospital for Hugenot decscendants and opposite Subway and Frances lles Art Gallery shops. We look forward to meeting you there.

Serious collectore are invited to make an appointment to view books or CDs on 07813632623
