A Collection of Unique Photographs 1900-1934 compiled by Allan Bedford (in association with Canterley Publishing Ltd) 2023 as a green/black white covered paperback book.
This book is a celebration of largely lost skills, carriagemakers, coachbuilders, wheelwrights, coachpainters and varnishers, signwriters, coach liners and canvas makers. It also celebrates the photographers who captured these moments in time. By the twentieth century coachbuilders throughout the country relied on the local commercial photographer to promote their work, with traditionally an oval sign written board placed in front of the subject. A study of these photos will reveal the evolution of these over the years. Several famous coachbuilders flourished in Kent, perhaps the best known Beadles of Dartford. Few people would associate the then heavily industrialised Thameside town of Erith with these activities, featuring everything from a bakers handcart, via charabancs to a travelling library. Includes chapters on: Introduction the Farriers, Wheelwrights, Van & Coachbuilders of Erith 1865-c1934, Prams, Wagons and Pantechnicons, The Federal Motor Truck Company, J&E Hall of Dartford -the Hallford, Commercials A-W, Charabancs, Some Notable Businesses who used Erith Coachworks, The Mobile Library and Later Days
129 page paperback in green/monochrome card covers with lovely coloured end papers showing various vehicles.
